What is a VAT ID and VAT ID verification?
Business Customers from within the European Union (EU) have the possibility to purchase from us exempt from VAT. This alternative is based on an exemption which is used for the exports of goods from the Community to third countries and also for intra-Community supplies of goods despatched from one Member State to a taxable person (or registered trader) in another. Sometimes these exemptions are called zero-rate supplies as the result is that there is no residual VAT in the final price.
Do I need to tell my VAT ID?
The Value Added Tax (VAT) ID number applies only if you are planning to place business orders exempt from VAT for a business in the European Union that has a current VAT ID. If your business is not VAT registered, you should leave the VAT ID field blank.
Entering your VAT ID
When entering your VAT ID, please follow the format shown for your country in the example below.
You should enter only the information shown here. Do not enter any dashes, slashes or blank spaces as part of the VAT ID. A tax number which you received from your fiscal authorities already containing slashes or dashes is usually not a VAT number but a general tax account number which is not a valid VAT ID.
Verifying your VAT ID
To be able to set up your account for zero-rate (net) orders, we must ensure that your VAT ID is valid. Please push the verification button next to the VAT ID field after entering your VAT ID. If the validity of your VAT ID is detected, the VAT ID is saved until completion of your registration.
In case the verfification returns a negative result, please check the accuracy of your input and repeat the verification.
If the verification fails permanently, please leave the VAT ID field blank and complete your registration. You will then be prompted to enter your VAT ID when placing your first order with us.
